Mize Guys (formerly Empire Mechanical) has done a variety of HVAC projects for us, such as installing additional vents for our heating system, and installing an excellent ductless heating and cooling unit in a large master bedroom. All of the work has been excellent, and the team is both friendly and highly knowledgeable.Last year, storms and flooding put my ductless system out of action. They promptly showed up and diagnosed the issue. It turned out that storm weather damaged the electrical circuit outside of the house. This was actually installed by my electrician (also a great resource), Walter Vaughan. Even before I could text Walter for help, they were in touch with him, telling him what they had found .. so we could get it fixed promptly.This year, during the hottest part of the summer, our air conditioner stopped working. Within hours, they got to the house, checked everything, and confirmed that the issue was just a breaker that was tripping inappropriately. They conveyed their findings to our electrician (Walter), so that his folks could replace it and check to be sure that they too saw nothing actually overloading the circuit.We have been pleased enough with Jay and his team to sign up for their ongoing maintenance plan. This covers scheduled work to keep our equipment running well .. and it also provides discounts for emergency calls outside of ordinary business hours.I highly recommend them, and we plan to be long term customers.

Irritated customer. I have a noisy motor in a gree air handler, mize guys staff asked for a video of the sound to diagnose the issue before scheduled a service call. They stated it would be $99 for a service call to verify. Cool didn’t think anything of it. Well their tech shows up, looked at my ac unit for less than 5 seconds, didn’t even open the unit, and then proceed to charge me for a service call and diagnostic fee totaling $258. A day later they called me with the quote to replace the motor that was $1519. I paid $1800 for the entire three zone system 8 years ago. Ordered the parts to do the repair myself for $63, support bearing and motor. I have no idea what they were doing to justify a $1500 repair bill on an air handler I can order brand new for $215. Other than that they were very responsive and nice. Please have your office staff inform customers of diagnostic fees or better yet include them in your service call fee. I feel very ripped off for less than 10 mins of your techs time. Lesson learned.

The HVAC at one of our rentals stopped cooling during a recent heat wave. Our tenants are elderly, so I wanted to get it back up and running quickly. Had another local H&A company come out and they told me the compressor had failed and that I needed a whole new system at a substantial cost. I felt pressured, but wisely told the the tech that I needed to get another opinion. I then had Empire come out. Connor and Morgan quickly determined that the only problem was a loose wire in the electrical panel. I have used this company for regular service, repair, total replacement of heating and air unit, duct work and modifications to air returns during a remodel. They worked with me to keep my old unit alive for a long time without trying to sell me on replacement. When my unit finally died, they thoroughly explained my options to make sure I got a replacement that I would be happy with that was in my budget. Their bid came in cheaper than two other companies for the same heating/air unit and theirs included some duct work. Empire is a family run business, with a great team of talented technicians on staff. After our heat-exchanger cracked and began leaking, I had a few other companies come out and assess the old unit. Each one took advantage of my stressful situation and tried to hard-sell me expensive all-electric systems, and warned me I could not use the existing heater or I risked getting Carbon Monoxide poisoning. After much frustration I was referred to Empire, and a lead tech came out the same day and informed me that my heat-exchanger was still under warranty and could be repaired, if I wanted, and not to worry about Carbon Monoxide while I was deciding what to do. He did a CM test to assure me. Later the owner, Jay, came to see me and went over all my options for either a repair , or a new system, and did not push for any solution but instead gave me brochures and web-sites to study up on, so I could choose knowledgeably. I opted to go with an entirely new split system with propane furnace. The pricing was reasonable. All of the techs working on my installation were friendly, knowledgable, and competent. Coral, in the front office, is super helpful and reassuring as well. I would highly recommend Empire Mechanical Services. Our stressful situation ended up being very pleasant, thanks to their ethics and professionalism.
